Bridget

Bridget has emerged as a skilled jazz pianist, captivating audiences with her unique approach to music. For Bridget, who is visually impaired, playing the piano is an intimate, tactile experience—she navigates the keys and creates beautiful melodies by feeling the music rather than relying on sheet music. In her four years at SoM, Bridget has not only honed her talents, she also composed her first-ever Jazz composition, Orion with the help of some SoM staff.

Alumni Spotlights

NIRVANA, once a shy young pianist, discovered her voice at SoM. “SoM made me feel like it was okay to be myself, and because of that, I grew and found who I was through music. SoM is the reason for that, giving me a way to express myself.” Overcoming past struggles with bullying, she found self-expression and confidence in music. Her journey took a pivotal turn during her first Open Mic in grade 4 when a supportive staff transformed a potential setback into a valuable learning experience. Nirvana ran off stage mid-song after playing the wrong chords and singing off-key. However, the MC brought her back, encouraging the crowd to cheer her on, resulting in a much-improved performance. This transformative moment taught her the unconditional acceptance of self. Now she produces original songs and uses her talent to give back. Nirvana’s dedication to SoM led her to raise $700, a full- circle moment ensuring new students can find their light in the world, just as she did.
